About On The Move
It was 2019 and I was having conversations with a friend about the name of a dance business called On the Move. At that time, I had no idea what it would look like. I workshopped the logo until we were completely obsessed with it! By January of 2020 I went all in and created an LLC, simply with faith, hope and energy pushing me forward. Then by March everyone had extra time on their hands! I had a long time, yet elusive vision to teach and create original works of dance that would touch hearts and minds. At that time I was teaching dance from my computer screen in my perfectly-spaced bedroom. I had about seven years of dance teaching experience under my belt and now I had the time and headspace to put together my first ever Summer Dance Program! Although there were challenges that came with the worldwide crisis which shall remain nameless, I was determined to get OTM to become a reality. It was “now or never.”
Now, OTM is growing and serves adults with evening events through the year such as The Latin Social, A Night of Afro and National Day. The Summer Dance Program is the main event of the year serving elementary children during the month of August. No matter what event you attend, you will be guaranteed to leave feeling uplifted and hopeful after making meaningful connections, and you make have gotten your groove back by the end too!
About Dana
Dana Butler is a certified Dance educator in New Jersey, who has been dancing most of her life. After earning a Bachelor’s degree in business administration with minors in dance and Spanish, she went on to earn a Master’s degree in Dance Education from NYU. During her time there and in the years since she has been blessed to perform globally with people of all ages and skillsets.
As a teacher, Dana regularly encounters students who are not sure how they will fare with dance. Her greatest joy is being instrumental in allowing that uncertainty to melt away as those students cultivate an appreciation for movement as an expressive art form, some even taking the stage in performance!
She started On the Move as a result of wanting to bring dance to the community in a new and engaging format. Aware of dance’s power to bring people together, she is determined to harness this gift and never let that go to waste.
